According to the CDC, influenza heightens in October, and peaks between the months of December and February. The first and most important step to protect yourself from the flu is receiving the flu vaccine annually. 

Additional every day steps that can help prevent the spread of germs include: 

• Avoiding close contact with those who are sick. 
• Frequent and diligent hand washing with soap and water.
• Covering coughs and sneezes appropriately. 
• Avoiding touching your mouth, nose, and eyes. 
• Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces regularly.
